PORCUPINE RIVER (Historic Alaska Information)
This affluent of the Yukon is one of the oldest trails in Alaska. The natives, Russians and Hudson Bay trappers passed over it winter and summer as (he highway between Ft. McPherson on the Peel, and Ft. Yukon. At the present time there are several trappers and indians along the river in winter, perhaps twenty-five, but no miners. Whalers and traders from Herchel come down the Porcupine by the way of Dease river or Rat river and La Pierr's House, 600 miles to Ft. Yukon.
